It's time to dust off the blog and get things rolling for 2011.
Paul Martin called for a league meeting on March 31st to begin charting our course for the new season. Most likely, we'll be starting in June once the Richmond Little League's season is over and the diamonds at Nicholl Park open up. I'll let you know what transpires at the meeting.
Some of us played for the Frank Hagel Federal Building's team in the Outlaw Invitational Tournament out in Atwater on March 19th. You can read about that here. We finished second, losing to Lancaster in the championship game. Worse than the defeat was the loss of Richie for the season. Richie tore his ACL and possibly his MCL in the tournament. He won't be able to play for at least nine months.
We'll have a bit of a roster shakeup in the 2011 season as at least a couple of our teammates over the past three seasons will not be returning this year. I'm not going to name names yet because they may want to tell you themselves.
I'll soon have an announcement about some players who will be joining the team for the 2011 season. In one instance it will be a teammate who is re-joining us.
First off, I would like to extend my gratefulness to my fellow Atwater squad, The Bay...what a battle we had down there & fell one game short of bringing the title back here to Richmond. Now going forward...I appreciate Mark & Gary for extending their invitation for allowing me to play with the Bricks last year. For those leaving, it was real cool sharing/bleeding the same color, good luck on everything! For the ones coming back & the new recruits, LETS DO THIS THANG! Im amp'd up for this season & will do everything necessary to win but more importantly, make it the best season possible for all Bricks members. A big shout out to the homey Richie...he played his guts out in Atwater & we heavily paid the price now. We will hold down The Closer dis season!! GO BRICKS!
ReplyDeleteHey, Carlos! It's been great having you play with us. It's a shame we took a big nosedive after the first month on the season in 2010. We won't let that happen this year. We saw what happens when a team has some success and grows overconfident. Too many of us thought we could play well without practicing and win just by showing up on game day. It's pretty clear now that we can't.
ReplyDeleteI'm expecting to see us return to the level of commitment we enjoyed the two previous years. It's not just about winning. It's about improving our skills, developing together as a team and enjoying the game.
I was disappointed that we didn't experience a "three-peat" last year but we didn't deserve it. What really bothered me was that we lost our edge. We slipped into complacency and played sloppy ball. Even worse, only about half our team seemed to care. We seldom ever had more than five or six players attend practice in the second half of the season -- not even for the playoffs. I can't imagine that happening again. I'd like to think we respect each other more than that. I'm expecting big things for us in 2011.
