PREPARING FOR THE UNTOUCHABLES

The only feedback I received about this week's practice was four requests to skip practice on Monday and hold a light workout on Wednesday. That's what we will do..I'd like to get everyone a few swings and a few reps at the position they're likely to play on Thursday. We'll be playing without Richie and Mariza throughout the playoffs (as long as we remain alive) so there will be some defensive adjustments.

So let's make every effort to be at Washington Park on Wednesday at 5:00. If we can get started on time, we should be done in time to zip over to Nicholl Park and catch the end of the playoff games.

  1. Richie's leg wasn't injured as badly as he thought so he's going to play today. So is Mariza.

Let's remember to stay focused on the game. Tune out any trash talking or bickering you hear from the other team (one player in particular). He will try to distract us as he always does. We cannot take the bait as we did in our last meeting. If there is a dispute, Coach will take it up with the umpire. Please, do not engage the other team.

    Here is today's lineup:
    1. Quinton 3B
    2. Mandi LF
    3. Brandon SS
    4. Nina 2B
    5. Carlos LCF
    6. Mariza 1B
    7. Derrick RCF
    8. Kedi RF
    9. Booker EH
    10. Mamie C
    11. Richie P
    12. Jansa EH

  2. A few reminders for our baserunners:

    1) You cannot touch home plate or the mat to score. Instead, you must run to the gap between the batter’s box and the backstop. There should be a chalk line but Richmond doesn’t always remember to stripe the field. If it’s not there, just pretend it is. Run through it like it’s the finish line in a sprint.

    2) If you hit a grounder on the infield and you have to run straight through the bag to beat the throw to first base, you MUST run to the orange bag on the foul side of the line. If there is a throw to first base and you run to the white base, you will be called out for interference. If you get a base hit to the outfield, you can run to the white base on the fair side.

    3) If you are on first or second base and the opposition tries to force you out at the next base, you cannot crash into the fielder receiving the throw. You must either A) stop; B) veer out of the way; or C) slide straight to the base. If you bowl over the infielder, you will be called out and the umpire will eject you from the game.
