OLD SCHOOL WNPSC SOFTBALL

Donnie Stance of Crittle's Critters.
I located some photos I thought you might find amusing. They were poached from Dave's Mack's AFGE Local 1122 Group on Facebook. (Clicking on the photos will enlarge them.)

When WNPSC relocated from San Francisco to Richmond in the mid-1970s, our office building wasn't home to the San Francisco Regional Office, the Teleservice Center, the Richmond Field Office, the gym, or the childcare center. All of those things came much later as our office was transformed from WNPSC to the Frank Hagel Federal Building. But we did have organized recreational sports. There were track meets, several bowling leagues, a volleyball league, and of course, a softball league.

Our games were played at Martin Luther King Memorial Park near the corner of Harbour Way and Cutting Blvd. Several of the folks in these photos are still working with us and a few are still playing in our softball league. The current participants you'll see are Mavis and Merle from the TD's, Darlener from SWAT, Jeanette ("Cookie") from the Mod Squad, and myself.

The Deadheads. Some of the Deadheads would later play with the 7-Ups.
John Heffernan of OAS and Julie Pezzotti of ICTU are in the back row.

Here are the 7-Ups. When I was with the Players, we lost to the
7-ups in the championship game. With the Shockers in 1985, we beat them.
Chris Hoy of CSI is in the back row, far right.

We drew some pretty big crowds to our games in the 1980s.

That's Jim Chase, Director of Management, throwing out the ceremonial first
pitch before the 1985 championship game between the Shockers and the 7-ups.
Gary Willis (arms folded), one of our SYSCOs is watching in the background.

The Shockers, 1985 Champs. Libby Willis, Manager in Mod 3 (far left), Sharon Connally, CA
in Mod 3 (looking down), myself (next to Sharon) and Gary Willis, SYSCO (behind me) are
still around these days.Gary is Libby's husband. You can see a bit of Sammy Calloway's
face (Western Legends) in the background. Sadly, three of the men seen here are deceased.

This is a shot from the 1985 championship game. I'm not sure who
is batting. The 7-Ups' catcher is Chris Hoy.

The Shockers and 7-Ups shake hands at the end of the game. We knocked
off the defending champs that day. Sharon Connally is #6. Paula Ramirez is #16.
Libby Willis's hair covers her number. Gary Willis is #43. I'm between Libby and Gary.

There are sme familiar faces in this old photo of the TD's. That's Merle Thompson
with his arms raised and Randy Johnson (CA, Mod 9) standing at the far right. Mavis
Lumsey is sitting in front next to the trophy. Squatting behind Mavis are Sharon
Connally (CA, Mod 3) and Darlener Fisher-Williams (DS, DMS). Jeanette "Cookie" Price
(CA, Mod 10) is next to the guy in the suit. That's Clyde Haley, our local union president.
This is the Twilight Zone. Sammy Calloway (Western Legends)
and Michael Parker (AMM, Mod 2) are in the back row.

This is an older photo of the TD's. I see Randy Johnson on the
left in the front row. The young woman to Randy's left is Mavis.
