CHAMPIONSHIP GAME, ALL-STAR GAME, & BBQ

We played our last game of the season but we still have a couple of league events on the calendar. First, the league championship game will be played next Wednesday, August 25th. Let's get out there and show some support for our league. I'm going to keep score and write up a full game report. I hope some of you with digital cameras will come and take lots of photos and maybe even some video.

I think we can use this game to publicize our league and entice more of our colleagues to play next season. If we can get more of them to join and form more teams, we won't have to endure another season with the City of Richmond team and they're cheating ways. So, who can come out to take some pictures? (Or at least back me up with the scorebook so I can take some.)

The next event is our league All-Star game and barbecue. This will be held Saturday, August 28th. The game will begin at 1:00 and be followed by a barbecue in the picnic area on the east side of the tennis courts (same place as 2008). We need to select two men and two women from our team to represent us in the All-Star game. We also need to provide four or five side dishes for the barbecue.

The barbecue is open to family, friends, and others who did not play in our softball league. However, non-players will have to pay $5.00 which will be put back into our league's account. We'll have Merle Thompson, Randy Johnson, Ken Finley, and Sammie Calloway manning the barbecues to grill up ribs, burgers, hot dogs, and links. With each team pitching in four or five side dishes, we should have quite a post-game feast. (Let's hope we can finally get some decent summer weather to go with it.)

I set up a poll for us to vote on our All-Star game representatives. We need to get an answer back to Paul Martin, ASAP. We also need some volunteers for our side dishes. Those who aren't particularly handy around the kitchen can at least pitch in with some money. Let's step to the plate and get these things taken care of. The All-Star game and barbeque is only eight days away.

  2. Thanks, Carlos. I get as much out of it as I put into it. It's a great team and I thoroughly enjoy the things we do together, on and off the field.

  3. I'm anything but a chef. If anyone is planning to fix something for the barbecue and needs someone to buy the ingredients or pitch in some money, please let me know. I have a Costco membership so if you need something from there, I can get it.

  5. With 15 of 19 votes in, three of the four All-Star spots have been settled. Carlos, Lawrence, and Lena have leads that can't be surpassed with only four voters left. The only question remaining is who will be the second woman to join them? It's too close to call at this point.

  6. I'll check with Paul to see if they've accounted for drinks. If not, we can fill up a few coolers with soft drinks and bottled water. We would still need at least a couple more things, though.
