Don't be discouraged, teammates. We made some mistakes yesterday but we were plain and simply outplayed by our opponents. James is an excellent pitcher and he did a good job of shutting down our offense. For the most part, the Outlaws executed well on defense while we experienced several lapses. There was no single thing we failed to do that cost us the game. There were some things we did very well but it wasn't enough. We were beaten.
All of the areas where we struggled can be addressed at practice. That's where it's up to us. I'm out there nearly every Monday from about 4:15 until sundown. We have a group of six-to-eight regulars who are there for practice. We can't work on the things we need with eight players. We need our players to be at the park for practice at 5:30. Hopefully this game will be a wake up call and we'll begin to see the level of consideration and commitment that's expected of our players.
One last thing -- some of our players were down on themselves because they didn't make a play. Or they didn't hit the ball well. Please remember the best ballplayers in the world make mistakes and have bad days at the plate. They drop the ball, they strikeout, and they make bad throws. So will we. We're not perfect. With practice, we will play better. We have yet to experience a full squad workout. When we see a higher level of commitment to each other, our level of play will improve substantially. I have to admit I'm extremely disappointed that we're having so much trouble getting our players to practice and to our games on time. But I remain optimistic that we'll get our act together soon.
