Monday's Practice

We had a lightly attended but effective practice at Seawright Field this afternoon. The attendees were Robin, Mariza, Richie, and myself with Mandi turning up a little later. Luckily, Robin got to the park early and claimed first dibs on Seawright Field. Mariza and I joined him and we got everything set up just before a pack of TD's showed up expecting to practice there. (The TD's moved over to Nichol Park #2.)
Without a large group, we were able to get in a lot of repetitions at the plate and in the field. We hit off the tee, we did some soft toss and I pitched regular batting practice. We used the tee primarily to work on hitting up the middle and to right field. We were able to go through several rounds of each before Robin had to take off.

Down to three, we moved on to our glove work. Mariza and Richie fielded a few buckets of grounders before moving out to shag some flies. In addition to the bucket, I pulled out the big bag of old batting practice balls. After a couple rounds, Mariza took a hard, sinking liner off her foot so we had to send her hobbling to the bench.

We were down to Richie and I at that point. I hit flies to Richie until I started running out of gas. Richie really worked his tail off to improve his fielding skills and I think all the reps he put in are going to pay great dividends to our team.

When Mandi arrived we went back to the batting tee and some live pitching so she could get in her reps at the plate. Then I hit several buckets of grounders to Mandi at third base with her throwing to Richie at second base to simulate the force out play. Then we went back to more BP before packing it in.

We'll be practicing again tomorrow and if Tuesday's practice is as productive as today's we're going to be in fine shape for our game with the Mod Squad this Thursday.
